In these tough economic times, I will continue to fight to preserve and enhance the quality of life that we expect in Southfield.

I am proud to have led a charge in Lansing to lower Southfield's property taxes. I will continue to work with state leaders to reform Proposal A and its adverse affect on the city's tax structure.

Last year, I testified before Congress to sound the early alarm on this foreclosure crisis. As a result, Southfield has been allocated $3.24 million in federal funds to help struggling homeowners in our city.

As our auto industry faces decline, I fought to protect local workers by travelling to Washington as a vocal supporter for a bridge loan to the Big Three.

I’ve met with President Obama to ensure the provisions of the stimulus package support Southfield’s infrastructure. A list of stimulus projects in Southfield totaling $253 million and creating over 700 local jobs is now before the administration. Many of these projects have already received federal approval, and I will continue to urge President Obama to invest in Southfield's future.

You have trusted me for 16 years as a public servant in Southfield and I have worked hard to maintain that trust. I am humbled to ask for your support for a third term as your mayor so we can continue to make Southfield even stronger together.

Sincerely,
